Hoof Beats 4 Change is a strong community of horse lovers and people with a passion for helping others.
Our programs encourage personal development in a fun and exciting atmosphere while working with horses. Our facilitators are certified in Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) through Equine Connection and are members of the EAL Network.
Hoof Beats 4 Change was born out of one woman's passion for horses and devotion to helping others. You could say Elizabeth Shea grew up in the saddle. Blessed with horses in her back yard throughout her childhood. She enjoyed taking care of the horses, taking lessons and the occasional local horse show. Unfortunately marrying her high school sweetheart, a soldier in the US Army and traveling the country meant no more horses of her own. However, during her husband's 20-year military career Elizabeth found great joy in serving others. She served in her church, in her children’s scouting groups and homeschool co-ops. Perhaps the most rewarding and heartbreaking was the time she and her husband spent as foster parents helping both parents and children in their darkest hours. While stationed in Germany, Elizabeth experienced an equine assisted activity with her husband at a Wounded Warriors event and saw firsthand the effects of his PTSD melt away during that program. At that moment she knew equine assisted activities was the bridge between her love for horses and compassion for people. After returning to the states Elizabeth became certified in Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) through Equine Connection, The Academy of Equine Assisted Learning and started building her herd of EAL horses. In August of 2018 she formed Hoof Beats 4 Change, Inc., an organization dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming place for anyone seeking to confidently move forward in their lives. Specifically focusing on helping veterans and at-risk women and children experience the transformational power of the horse.
